The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday in Abuja launched the Eagle Eye, a mobile app for financial crimes reporting. Eagle Eye is available for Android users on Google Playstore and Apple Store for IOS users.

According to the EFCC’s Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, a unique advantage of the app is that it eliminates the direct person-to-person interface in the reporting process, thus ensuring anonymity and “an added incentive. to effective denunciation.”

The app is designed to complement existing crime reporting channels and reinforces the commission’s commitment to checkmate economic crimes by leveraging technology tools, said Bawa.

His words: “For us at the EFCC this event is unique in several ways. It is the first of its kind by a law enforcement agency in the country. Second, it is the product of the ingenuity of a commission staff, being an application that was initiated, designed and developed by the EFCC. Third, it’s a clear demonstration of my commitment, when I took office, to lead a technology-driven agency.”

The app offers a new window for citizen’s participation in fighting economic and financial crimes, the anti-graft czar said.

He added: “The Eagle Eye presents a new experience, a new tool for sharing information between the public and the EFCC. With the App, those who fear reporting cases of corruption to the commission, either for fear of being identified as a partner, or for fear of having their identity checked, can now do so with the assurance of a perfect secret.

“I therefore appeal to members of the public to take advantage of this app to bring cases of corruption and economic crimes to the attention of the EFCC.”

Once downloaded, Eagle Eye allows the users to easily take photos of property suspected of having been acquired fraudulently or corruptly and report them through the app.

“With the Eagle Eye, you have a device at your fingertips that will ultimately ensure that there is no hiding place for corrupt people in Nigeria,” said Bawa.
