Amazon is investing massively to have its platform become first choice for local merchants to sell Nigerian products offshore in the about 30 countries where it already has robust presence.

The American e-commerce giant is already hiring enterprise account managers, startup segment leaders, senior partner sales managers, and other different positions for its Nigeria office to begin operations by the first quarter of 2023. The positions are advertised on LinkedIn.

“Amazon is the top world online store, records millions of visits from all over the world, and offers unmatched access to customers including buyers and sellers globally. It is bringing that strength to bear on the local scene allowing millions of Nigerians to offer their unique products online to customers outside our shores,” said an insider.

Amazon’s Nigerian presence is part of its expansion into new markets in Africa, Europe (Belgium) and Latin America (Chile, Columbia). It is opening shop too in South Africa to underscore its plans to leverage opportunities in two of Africa’s biggest economies.

The company will be pushing its presence through its Fulfilment Amazon service providing a unique market approach that unleashes arrays of products and services that could ebb out existing competition notably local players like Konga and Jumia, which recently marked 10 years of operations in Nigeria.
